Thursday, November 14, 2024, at 8:30 a.m. at The Cavalikasa Resort, J. Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya, Dr. Surasi Kittimonthon, secretary general of the National Water Resources Agency (STNCH). Chairman of the 2nd Regional Consultation Workshop for the project supported by the Mekong-Mahong Chang Special Fund and the Mekong-Mahong cooperation framework. Participants from 6 countries in the Mekong-Mahong River basin representatives from the Chinese Embassy in Bangkok are the main organizations that promote youth participation in the region. The organisation that operates the Lan Xang – Mekong Region Youth Leadership Network (WSYLN project)

Chulaongkorn University, Stockholm Environment Institute, Asia Centre and LMC Water Center, associated youth networks including SUMERNET Young Professionals, experts from government agencies and educational institutions and private companies.
The participation of young people and communities in water resource management is crucial for the sustainable development of the Lamsang-Mae Mekong region, which will be the focus of the second regional workshop on the “Building the Network of Water Leaders in the Lamsang-Mae Mekong region” and the project. “Technology promotion and intelligent innovation in water management and sustainable rice production under the climate change in the Lan Chang-Mong River region”



in Ayutthaya, Thailand, November 13-15, 2024. This event was a gathering of 6 youth leaders, project implementers, farmers and key stakeholders. Mekong-Lan Chang countries have joined forces to discuss the success of the project, including drafting a five-year action plan for young leaders in the water sector and enhancing communication capabilities, applying intelligent technology in water management and rice production, participation of various stakeholders, and leadership. As confirmed in the Vientiane Declaration of the 3rd MLC Leaders’ Meeting in 2018, the Mekong-Lancang Cooperation (MLC) emphasizes the inclusion of young people in water management initiatives. This workshop aims to promote this vision by strengthening the capabilities of young people. Promote community collaboration and summarize key achievements including the design of action plans and joint statements of the network of youth leaders.



This workshop is part of a long-term initiative to build a network of youth leaders in the region focused on good governance in integrated water resources management in the Mekong-Lan Chang River region, Ms. Chayanit Kritsutthuwai, Deputy Director of Stockholm Environment Institute, Asia. Asia Centre) and the head of the project “Building a Network of Water Leader in the Lan Xang-Mae Mekong Region” said, “This workshop is a valuable opportunity to highlight the growing role young people play in the management of water resources in the Mekong-Mae Mekong-Mae region. To ensure water security and adaptability to climate change, an urgent global challenge, the participation of youth leaders is essential for a sustainable solution, and for the first time, young leaders and water experts from the six Mekong-Million countries have come together to form a five-year action plan. This plan will give young people an opportunity to build their potential.
